Here's a great list of which OSes do and don't work on MS Virtual PC 2004/2005.  List includes almost every OS out there...from MacOS to Linux variations to BSD and Longhorn.

I personally prefer VirtualPC, but if you're a VMWare fan, they've just released a really good Technology Network that allows you to download preconfigured images for:

  • Novell
  • RedHat
  • mySQL
  • Oracle

among others.  Pretty cool.  Only downside is that several of the virtual machines are only for 90 days (such as the RedHat distro, which is a 90-day evaluation).
