The Miami Dolphins made a major mistake on cut-down day, releasing Robert Edwards and instead keeping a 4th tight end (Marco Battaglia). Edwards (a former 1200 yard rusher and rookie MVP) is fully rehabilitated from his serious knee injury, and showed his old brilliance during the preseason.
The Dolphins have tried to trade him over the past 2 days, but got no takers. In Battaglia, the Dolphins get a veteran backup tight end, with really no shot at much playing time (since the Dolphins rarely use a 2 TE set), since Donald Lee is the backup TE.
What the Dolphins should have done, is released Battaglia (keeping their long snapper as the emergency/3rd TE), and kept Edwards. If Ricky Williams is out for any extended action, Edwards was the only back on the roster with experience and the abilities to be a full-time back who could stem the tide until Ricky got back.
As it is, it is highly possible that Edwards could go back to the Patriots (who are desparate for a running game) - a move which could cost the Dolphins the AFC East and possibly a playoff spot. If Dave Wannestedt is reading: Coach, this is your worst move EVER. Mark my words - this will come back to haunt this time sometime this season!
