IBM has published an article comparing Ruby on Rails to J2EE (more specifically, against the combination of Tomcat, JSP, and Hibernate).

The power of Rails is that it's so terse, much of which owes itself to Ruby rather than Rails. It's interesting watching the these comparisons (and also ports of Rails) to other environments and seeing how much of the difference exists because of differences in the environment, rather than differences in one framework vs. another.
