On my drive in this morning listening to Hard Attack, I heard this absolutely mesmerizing piece of music: driving rhythm guitar with double bass providing a foundation, over top of which is layered an intricate and weaving melody through lead guitar. It was inspiringly good. (It was Selkies: The Endless Obsession by Between the Buried and Me, if you care.)

Then, it happened. Like it always does these days. Oscar the Grouch comes in on lead vocals, and immediately turns me off from buying the album.

When did this meeting happen, where all metal bands decided vocalists should grumble their lyrics? If you have so little respect for them that you'd make them inaudible, you might as well save us the trouble and write instrumentals instead. Then you might've gotten a sale this morning instead of a resigned sigh and a blog post.
