Lots of reading this month. I love reading Kurt Vonnegut. He is my all-time favorite author, and as I read through this latest book of his, I realized that his writing has helped shape my life and in particular my outlook on life. (Humanism strikes a chord with me) This wasn’t his best book, it was basically Vonnegut rambling on different various topics… but every word he writes is awesome to me.
After finishing Gone with the Wind and then A Man without a Country the next book I read was pretty much doomed to fail. It didn’t completely fail though, The Unthinkable Thoughts of Jacob Greene was interesting and it did a good job of capturing a pretty Dis-functional family and the honest thoughts of a teenage kid. The plot jumped all over the place though, and I was a little unhappy with the ending.
The last three books on this list are books that I am currently reading. The Big Sleep is my main book at the moment, and it is pretty good so far. Chandler has a very interesting writing style filled with short, quick, sentences and clever metaphors. I talked about Songbook some last month, it is basically Hornby talking about some of his favorite songs. I have been listening to each of the songs on Rhapsody as I read through the section of the book, unfortunately not every song is on Rhapsody.. but most of them are. Its a very enjoyable book, I love the idea and wish more people would do it. I have even found a couple songs I really enjoy.
I am also reading through Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the wind letters, 1936-1949 a little bit at a time. I have never read a book of letters before, I like the fact that it is easy to pick it up and read through a couple letters, but since so many of these are professional letters and not personal alot of them cover the same thing over and over again which can become tedious.
