Based on feedback from customers and partners, Microsoft is pursuing the Department of Defense 5015.2 (Chapter 2) certification for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

Microsoft is creating a Records Management Center Add-on Pack that will add the additional DoD 5015.2 required functionality to comply with and get certified with the Standard.

A confirmed test date of May 14, 2007 has been given ... once the certification is completed and MOSS 2007 is 'certified' it will be listed on the JITC product register at: http://jitc.fhu.disa.mil/recmgt/register.htm .

The Department of Defense 5015.2 Standard was born out of several process improvement initiatives and business process reengineering efforts during the early 1990's conducted by the Department of Defense. These efforts were primarily directed at improving the preservation of official records in accordance with applicable Federal law. They were also responding to the potential loss of critical official records as a result of the growing reliance on PCs and laptop computers. The DoD 5015.2 STD is used by other countries like Denmark, South Africa and others as their Government standard.
