I just finished Stephen Baxter's Coalescent. I really enjoyed the book and it sort of restored my faith in SF. I had a really bad experience with the last book I read, Charles Stross' Singularity Sky. I love every thing Stross has written to this point and serached for all his stuff. This book stopped that. It is overtly leftist socialism in the form of a SF book to a point of wanting to throw the book aggainst a wall. I even gave up SF for a while. Anyhow, Coalescent is first rate from a Hard SF mater now going into some human dimensions of evolution including some nice Roman empire history. Next up is Quicksilver.
