You see a Bruce Lynn a senior manager in the IT industry ... we see an artic explorer !

Ive just returned from the Artic circle. I was greatly honoured to be invited by Bruce on his teams Customer/Partner Artic Adventure to the Ice Hotel in the little village of Jukkasjarvi in northern Lapland, Sweden. The hotel is built from thousands of tons of snow and ice, and re-built every winter.

Highlights of the tour include:

  • sleeping on a bed made of ice - I have a certificate to say i survived sleeping in a room that was minus 5 degree centigrade
  • drinking pepper flavoured vodka from cups made of ice - beer wasn't available because it would have frozen
  • being pulled by huskies for an hour through an artic forest and arriving at a log cabin with blazing fire and hot drink awaiting
  • racing sleighs pulled by reindeers
  • ice sculpting
  • meeting the Saami community and being served traditional Saami food served at the campfire inside the tepee
  • the sauna were great ... but I avoided the hole-in-the-ice dip
