If you are attending TechEd next week, you will no doubt hear a lot of Microsoft Office Information Bridge Framework announcements and the opportunity to attend drill down sessions - however the information has appeared early on microsoft.com and a beta download is now available.
Start by watching the Flash demo and see how the Information Bridge Framework enables developers to create Office-to-Enterprise solutions, and then learn how that solution helps information workers become more efficient.
Information Bridge Framework is the technology empowering Information Workers with information discovery and integration and improves decision making processes by making relevant information available within Microsoft Office environment. Information Bridge Framework powered solution also ensures that the Microsoft Office documents are enriched with information from enterprise applications, providing context for making better decisions faster.
Developers are empowered by the Information Bridge Framework to quickly create and deploy custom Office System solutions that adapt easily to an organisation's existing web services based IT infrastructure. It is integrated into the Visual Studio.NET environment and provides access to Microsoft Office metaphors such as Smart Tags and Task Panes, and a metadata-driven architecture to enable developers to build declarative solutions with little or no coding. More advanced developers can use their .NET development skills to build Web services and Windows Forms interfaces.
Specifically, Information Bridge includes:
A client-side component, which interprets the context of a region or business entity within an Office document based on the underlying XML markup, and then connects the context to relevant actions available from Web services
Information Bridge Metadata Service, which allows these Web services to expose the data, views, and actions embodied by the line-of-business applications.
Information Bridge Metadata Designer, a plug-in for the Microsoft Visual Studio.NET development system, for creating and managing solution metadata.
Prescriptive guidance to help developers create compliant Web services that can be consumed within the Microsoft Office System programs through Information Bridge.
