Here is something that I'm trying to understand, and maybe some of you can help me?
Before blogging I got a lot of use out of public forums, and still do. The nice thing about a forum is that most provide an option that will send you an email, when someone responds to a particular post. Although it's not really necessary on a forum (You can always add it to your favorites, and check back later), it IS very convenient, and is an excellent feature that just makes sense.
Blogging for the last couple of months has really opened up a whole new world for me. I'm able to network with n amount of people, and collect a lot more information than I could have on my own. The problem with most blogs (including my own), as I see it now, is that there isn't a system implemented to alert the reader when a blog has been responded to. Now your first thought probably is "well that's what news readers are for", and you would be right to some extent. The problem is that I don't subscribe to every single feed that I respond to. And I would be selling myself, and others short, if I only responded to those that I DO subscribe.
After I respond to several different blogs, I'll often try to track them down later on, and see if the author or other readers have responded. It doesn't take long, before I forget these sites and their links, which potentially leads to unread answers, wasted time, and knowledge. With this pitfall in blogs, it makes me wonder why more people aren't adding an email option similar to most forums. I think by implementing this option, you're adding an extra layer of "networking", that will allow the blogging community to become more streamlined.
