You can find on Piasi.org a lot of controls. Most of hem are indeed Javascript script embedded in a user control. None are really exceptional, maybe just the fact that they are server side controls, so you should be able to dynamically chnage their properties.

Pity that the source is not provided.

AutoScroll

scrolls your message from bottom to top pausing between consecutive scrolls. Crossbrowser.

ImgSlide

Image Slider control with right-left blur. As many images as you want. Crossbrowser.

OutLine

Outline text for any text. Show or hide on mouse click. Can contain links, images, etc. Crossbrowser.

RndSlide

Image Slide with random order and random filter on IE4+. Great for large number of pictures.

ScrollArea
