This is cool. Johnvey Hwang has released an open source API for accessing GMail. He also has a cool new mail application as a proof of concept application. This lets you check multiple accounts and also displays first unread mail's details.

GMail Agent

Well anyway since there is an API I guess I should write my own notifier. ;-) I did a quick command line tool to fetch the number of unread mails. Now I am planning a MONAD[1] commandlet for checking GMail. I wanted to check out MONAD anyway.
