Sue and I just decided to take Jonathan and Heather off to the White Mountains last Friday morning for a mini-vacation. Its just awesome that two hours north of us exists this paradise. We went to all the places I went growing up, all of which have been updated quite a bit since the 60's. Saturday, we spent all day at Storyland which is quite impressive these days. What was impressive to us and to everyone we talked to is the caliber of the park, the family orientation, and just how cheap it is. Instead of ripping you off for every dollar (which they could do) as Disneyworld does, everything is cheap and reasonable. Drinks cost less than $1.50 and t-shirts are under $18 for instance. In comparison, breakfast for Sue, Jonathan and I would run $40 every morning at our Disneyworld hotel before we even got in the park. Sunday, we hit my 60's favorite, Six Gun City. I have many fond memories of this place playing cowboy and indian. Unfortunately, to make themselves “modern” they added a water park and spoiled my childhood memories but made Jonathan quite happy. We also hit Santa's Village on Sunday. We returned today. Heather is having her “terrible 2's” early (18 months) so she was quite the challenge but Jonathan said it was “the best time of his life” so thats what counts. Me, I have to go on vacation now. Instead, I am bringing Jonathan with me into Boston, to work tomorrow so he can ride the rails and see the city.
