Saar has a nice post detailing how you could hack your way in and out of a transaction using SWC Services without components) even if you don't have SP2 installed on your XP machine. The funny thing is that SWC *did* work on my XP SP1 machine without any hacks needed, but did *not* run on a different XP SP1 machine I had used.
There's an explanation for this  . you might want to note that his hack did not work anymore after installing some hot fix. Still - this is something I'll keep here for future reference.
