Good news for HD buffs like myself with DirectTV. They've announced that they will launch 2 new Ka band satellites for 500 additional HD channels by 2005, and another 2 satellites that will provide an additional 1000 HD channels by 2007.

If you don't have HDTV, the time is ripe to start looking for that receiver (always get the receiver first - just like audiophiles get the speakers 1st), it's the most critical component. You can use the receiver to down-convert the HD signal to produce an even better standard signal (480i) to your TV. Then, when LCD panels come down in price (don't get a cheap plasma right now, wait for LCD), you can get a top of the line panel and plug it right in.

It's a great time to have HDTV.
