I just got off the treadmill where I did a paltry 65 minute run/walk for 4.0 miles and 583 calories. It was paltry because I was 48:51 at the 5K mark, well over 10 minutes off my pace but then again I walked the first 12 minutes and I haven't run in a long time. Anyway, I had Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous album on my IPod (one of the best live albums ever - see the MSN music review) while I ran and it brought up some interesting memories. It was 1977 and Thin Lizzy had scored a big hit with “The Boys Are Back in Town“ the summer before. I was a lad of 16 in high school. It was the time of 8-tracks-) It was the time of long hair - I actually had hair then - down past my shoulders - it was the style then! American high schools then were more split than the election today and political parties! Split into cliches and groups. Actually it was a lot like AppDomains in the CLR you know? There were lot of AppDomains and you couldn't directly access another AppDomain from yours. The groups would never interact except through proxies. Anyway in 1977, I acquired every teenager's dream and every parent's nightmare - a license to drive. So my poor father was forced to donate his 1967 Chevy Malibu Station Wagon (this one was almost cool) and I jammed in a 8-track and carved holes in the back hubs for big speakers! Suitably empowered, I sought to become cool and popular. One of the girls in our social group (AppDomain) was one of the first victim of having to drive with this crazy 16 year old. Anyway, I was sweet on this girl, I think her name was Denise. Thin Lizzy's Bad Reputation album or I should say 8-track was popular then and during all the rides to school, one of its songs, “Dancing in the Moonlight” became our song (she signed my yearbook in 1980 with it). I thought I was cool and she was probably thinking what a sucker this guy is giving me all these car rides to school and thinking I'm interested.
