Beantown.NET is meeting tonight even though I will be in Iowa. The topic is Advanced Control Development in ASP.NET: By now, many of us have worked with ASP.NET in some capacity. However, because ASP.NET hides many of the details of its framework away from developers, much of what is provided is just as enigmatic as it is impressive. In this session targeted for developers having experience with ASP.NET, we'll cover the how and when of the following so your applications can take on a new maturity and so you can escape from the grasp of unnecessary stress: How the IIS and ASP.NET pipeline processes requests and responses
How a web form and its code-behind are integrated to process requests
How user and custom controls work behind the scenes
How validation controls work on the client and the server, and how to correctly write your own
The internals of events, the postback process, and viewstate
How databinding really works
How templated controls realize their goals
Guest Bio: Stephen Seymour is the founder of ThoughtShapes, a New England consulting company.
Also, my pal Robert Holmes sent email about a C# Group of Greater Boston event:
Tuesday December 7th, C Sharp Group of Greater Boston:
The C Sharp Group of Greater Boston will host a potluck dinner with two focused discussion groups.
Robert Hurlbut will lead the discussion on development strategies during the first hour. This topic includes test driven development, developing as non admin, use of virtual machines, etc. Robert needs no introduction in the area for anyone who regularly attends local developer events.
Then we will eat and group member Nabil Benchkroun will lead discussion on ASP.NET tips tricks and traps. Nabil is a regular attendee and contributor to our group and has considerable real world experience with ASP.NET.
Both will be more discussions than presentations so bring your questions, or your answers, and share with us all. If you want to eat then please bring as much food as you want to eat yourself, and a food item for each dessert, or else it will be our holiday dessert event. Diversity in food will be considered a plus!
