Apparently, MCE 2005 boxes cannot join domains any more (although, oddly, the option is still given during initial setup). The reasoning is that the extenders don't work on domains.

Patching a DLL can get around it, at the cost of extender support, if you need your MCE box on a domain (say, at work, working on MCE-specific software).
