The Service Herald has been reborn in a weekly format. This rebirth is purely because of selfish reasons as I really miss looking back and understanding what resources compelled me enough to link to them.
Predictions for 2005 – Ok.. they were a lot of predictions and a handful of service specific predictions, including a list from yours truly. But, Eric Newcomer’s list was the vision I felt aligned with the most. I don’t necessarily agree with them manifesting this year, but I do agree that his viewpoints will play major role in our industry in the next couple of years.
Baker’s State FAQ – The FAQ really never defines what state is but it does define different categories of state and how it relates to distributed systems.
Whiteboarding WS-* – While most people won’t find watching horizontal and vertical boxes being drawn on a whiteboard entertaining, I am quite the opposite. This video is a nice complement of the WS-* paper authored by Microsoft. Omri also discusses the unification of Indigo and further accelerates my excitement for its arrival.
The state of workflow – Tom Baeyans (Lead Developer for the JBoss BPM engine) writes an introductory article covering Business process managements systems and Workflow management systems. He also offers the benefits of using a WFMS in the enterprise and discusses what choices there are today for a workflow system. Interesting read. [via Stefan Tilkov]
