Brad set an official deadline for discussing things of the year past (today), and also shares his top 10 albums of the year. I figured I better get in by the deadline, so here are my top 10 albums of the year.

10. Green Day - American Idiot
I was never a huge Green Day fan. I liked their early stuff, and they had some good songs over the years, but I was very very surprised by how good this album is. It is quickly getting very played on the radio though.

9. Rougue Wave - Out of the Shadow
I have been warming up to a lighter more pop sounding indie rock this year, and this is one of the albums that has helped do that. Very good stuff.

8. Morrissey - Your are the Quarry
I really discovered Morrissey this year, while I had listened to the Smiths before I had not been exposed to alot of his solo stuff. This is a great album and has a little anti-american sentiment thrown in for good measure.

7. Black Keys - Rubber Factory
Incredible band. Two dudes, lots of blues, lots of rock n' roll.

6. Secret Machines - Now Here is Nowhere
I guess the best way to categorize this type of sound is prog indie rock.

5. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
This band kicks ass. The entire album is incredible, but surprisingly this is the second best album from Scotland this year.

4. Autolux - Future Perfect
Kind of an electronic indie rock. Very catchy and incredible album. This is one of the albums I had to listen to over and over again.

3. The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Number 3! Am I crazy? I only recently picked this album up, so it might grow on me more over time... but I think there are two other albums that are better.

2. Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine
Holy Shit this band and album kick ass. I think Brad described it best by calling it a "metal-esque electronic dance record".

1. Snow Patrol - Final Straw
I love this album. Whenever I talk about it I have to go give it a listen. The music and lyrics are very simple, but in a good way.

Here are some honorable mentions:

Interpol - Antics
I like this album alot, but I guess I expected more from them.. this reminds me of the Strokes second album. Good, but almost too similar to the first.

Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
Again, very good album. But held up to their previous work it just doesnt stand up as well. It might not be fair to judge an album based on the artist's previous works, but tough shit.

The Killers - Hot Fuss
This album has about three great songs, if the rest of the album was as good as those songs it would be on the list.

Elliot Smith - From a basement on the hill
I just have not listened to this album enough yet, very depressing stuff. (especially considering the circumstances)
