Great article by Miguel de Icaza (founder of Mono) on setting up Mono for windows-based development (via Larkware).

Also look at Introduction to Mono - Your First Mono app.

For those of you that don't know, Mono is a cross-platform implementation of the .NET framework, with Linux being the primary target.  It has several great additions to the framework.
