I am sitting in my hotel room with one computer doing a full checked Rotor build and another next to it trying to get a whole bunch of work files from VSS via VPN. You know VSS really sucks over VPN or any other mechanism other than a direct LAN connection. Yes, I know about Source Offsite but we don't have it. I can't wait to do away with the whole mess and replace it with the TFS in Whidbey. Anyhow, I want to comment on the Clemens/Tim Indigo discussion but feel I am not ready yet (I am pretty sure I am on Clemen's side) so here is what else is going on:
I don't think I commented yet on the release of the PAG Enterprise Library. This is obviously a great thing. Of particular relevance to me is the DAAB done right with an Abstract Factory pattern approach and supporting SqlServer, Oracle and DB/2 Data Providers.
Shawn Farkas comments on the GAC Full Trust security changes between 1.0, 1.1, Whidbey Beta 1 and Whidbey Beta 2. “Instead, from beta 2 on, we'll automatically grant assemblies in the GAC FullTrust regardless of what the security policy says about them.“ Maybe I'm thick but is this a good thing? Shouldn't good security policy be also about requesting just what you need?
The Smart Client Team at Microsoft patterns & practices needs your feedback to evaluate the need of guidance for devices based Smart Clients (Mobile solution scenarios based on .NET Compact Framework). Please provide it to them! There are still many parts of Microsoft just not getting that mobile development is critical right now and the upcoming tools (and guidance) are just not there.
