If you've never visited, Ze Frank.. then you're missing out. Now, I know some people don't like his childish jokes and humor, but there is something far more interesting going on with Zefrank that isn't often spoken about - is it Sports Racers?

That's the creative well that is Zefrank's community. Have a look at http://www.zefrank.com itself and then also his Video podcast, http://www.zefrank.com/theshow - when you start to explore some of the links around his show and on his website, you start to discover something very interesting:

Lots of trivial nothings that make up a community of creativity. His listeners contribute untold man hours producing animations, musical remixes, games, playing chess, using GPS devices to put two pieces of bread on opposite sides of the world and until recently, Ze Frank did most of this without any kind of monetary reward.

Now he's made a very simple gift system where you can give Ze a small amount of money and in return he'll put your message on the next vodcast he does. Cute. He also sells T-shirts and the like - of which many of the designs for said t-shirts also came from his devoted fans.

His most devoted fans often join the League of Awesomeness and get a new name - especially those who are capable of pulling off a credible power-move.

It's trivial fun, doesn't require deep thought - in short, Ze Frank has found a way to give people escapism - even though he often talks world politics. Recently he discussed blueberries and strawberries - he was talking about the 'red states vs blue states' affect of the last USA election. Cute and playful.

Ze Frank even appeared as a comedy stand up act at the TED conference - his routine was quite funny, including small games that show off different religions and scoring people by their google number.

So Ze Frank has done something different. Instead of being a tower of creativity that which people admire, Ze Frank has created a community of creativity, with him as the center piece. Example: In today's vodcast he suggested some claymation intro's would "be cool, I'm just sayin'". You can bet your bottom dollar a bored animator or claymation expert who's a ze frank fan will have something knocked up for him in less than week's time.

This kind of community input is simply beyond impressive - it's staggeringly impressive. And while you may not enjoy Ze's humor (although I personally do enjoy it - anecdote below), you have to admire what he's achieved - and what his devoted fans have achieved.

Anecdote: When I was just starting to get in to Ze, I thought he was a bit cooky and I decided to give him a go. My friend David was also semi-interested in ze, but he's not the kind of guy to go and watch an episode every few days. We were finishing up at work and I decided to put Ze on - so I called David over.

To our surprise, Ze announced that it was "David Day" - if you know a david, give him a hug! .. Hah. So I gave Dave a hug. Classic stuff. From that point on I was sold on Ze Frank and I've been watching him ever since. Ze Frank, League of Awesomeness, Sports Racers the world over - keep up the good work.
