From the NY Times:
A senior executive at one company, who requested anonymity to avoid straining relations with Apple, said that while labels might experiment with other forms of copy-protection software, “we’re not going to broadly license our content for unprotected digital distribution.”
I have two questions - here's the one aimed at that exec: What do you call this:

My wife and I have over 600 of those in the house - unprotected digital music that's easy to copy anywhere, purchased legally. My next question is for the person the anonymous moron reports to: Are you happy having such an absurdly stupid person on staff?
Update: Heh. I love Tim Bray's take on this:
You know, I used to think that that gang couldn’t possibly be as clueless as they were acting, what with wholesale lawsuits against their customers, that it had to be an aspect of some crafty grand plan that I wasn’t smart enough to get.
I don’t think so. The RIAA? If it had gunpowder for brains, it still wouldn’t be able to blow its nose.
Ouch.
