Juha-Pekka beat me to it, so most of you probably already know that MetaCase has been honored by SD Times in their list of 100 companies in the industry. More specifically, they list MetaCase as one of 5 companies that are shaping the modeling arena (the others are IBM, Ravenflow, SysML Partners and Telelogic).
Looking back to the SD Times 100 Winners for 2006, I see we pushed out the OMG, Borland and Microsoft. The decline of influence of the OMG has been clear, and Borland have done little last year, but the omission of Microsoft bears a closer look. In 2006 it was praised for "talk of domain-specific languages", "even though it couldn't deliver on its modeling tool". Now the Microsoft DSL Tools have been released, so it's a shame if SD Times are no longer so impressed.
The description of DSM this year reveals a deepening understanding at SD Times:
"Domain-specific languages that raise the level of abstraction are the way modeling will become a more efficient way to develop software. MetaCase is leading the charge"
They pick up on the key points of doman-specificity, raising the level of abstraction and increasing productivity. I also like the way they see modeling as a way to develop software -- not just to design or think about it. And of course I won't quibble about our "leading the charge", although a charge that has already taken 15 years is perhaps more of a marathon. Having picked up our first award from Byte in 1995, I look forward to the challenge of keeping up the pace!
