I really like cool desktop wallpaper - backgrounds. I like them a lot. I really like it when some smart graphics designer / artist type makes some for a project and people can show them off happily at conferences and the like. It's advocacy! and it dawned on me that the only wallpaper I've seen around for Smalltalk was for Dolphin. They're pretty nice too.

So I thought it was about time we had some for Cincom Smalltalk. I was browsing around the web searching for random Smalltalk stuff when I came across Neil Fraser's fantastic image generator, which he wrote in multiple languages. He supplied Smalltalk code for VW5i.2 - that's a while ago, in 2004 in fact. I really liked the results of his images, so I asked him permission if I could use his code.

You'll find published in public store a package called SmalltalkWallpaper which contains Neil's code plus a bit of Cairo code to add the [|] logo on to the image. You can generate a hundred or so wallpapers yourself by writing code like:

100 timesRepeat: [Colours generateWallpaperFile]

But you'll get plenty of wallpapers that don't look 'that great'(tm). I generated 800 of them before I got sick of the CPU wastage and went and culled the list. I got down to 175 that I really like looking at. I've bundled them up and you can download them here (82mb)
