I've always had a dim view of the French Revolution, so I found
Burke's 1790 impressions of it fascinating. He wrote before the
Terror started, but he had a very clear idea as to what was coming
- and predicted the rise of a military dictatorship as the end game
for the Revolution.
For a modern reader, this book can be hard to get started with -
18th century prose was written in a fairly dense style. It's worth
it though, and this little book is a fairly quick read, at 252
pages. I think the book still has relevance today - it would be
interesting to be able to get Burke's thoughts on the modern world
- America, the EU, or his native UK. Plenty of food for thought in
this tome.
