I'd have a little more respect for Bill Keller's arguments if:
- It wasn't a complete strawman
- If most newspapers - including the Times - were doing more than just passing along wire reports
Here's the thing: journalism just isn't that tricky a field. It's an interesting conceit that they've set up "journalism schools", but that's what it is - a conceit. Here's a thought: get reporters who know something about the fields they cover, instead of "journalists" who know next to nothing. Why is it that the media seems to understand this in the relatively trivial field of sports reporting, but can't figure it out for much of anything else?
