Scoble is part of the "Facebook has a problem" posse this morning:
This story is NOT going away . Even if this particular story goes away, there’s a bad taste in our mouths because Facebook tried to do something that clearly wasn’t for the users. When David Weinberger, one of the authors of the Cluetrain Manifesto, says that you have a real PR problem.
Well, I'm not sure that "argument by authority" is going to work as a strategy. What David Weinberger thinks is a data point - nothing more, nothing less. Personally, I've had a really hard time mustering concern over Beacon, much less outrage. I mean, seriously - given Facebook's usage model, what did you expect?
If there are things you don't want leaked onto the public net, here's a tip: don't post them. Most of us who started with email and Usenet learned that lesson the hard way; it seems that an awful lot of people simply can't figure that out.
