This comment from Scoble, about the Kindle, is perhaps the most surprising aspect of the whole thing:

Me? I do love the process of reading on it after you ignore the design. It is awkward to hold and it hasn’t gotten less awkward over time, even after reading a ton on it.

You would think that something that people spent 3 years designing would not end up being awkward to hold - especially when the entire idea is to make it easier to read. Never mind the DRM; this sounds like a very basic failure. My wife, who is interested in the idea of the Kindle, has already said that she's probably interested in the 2nd or 3rd generation.
