I found this report, in the Washington Post - about a new, nasty virus - reminded me of something. Sure enough, I went back and looked at "The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History", and there were some similarities. Before the big outbreak, there was a lesser wave that passed through - and miltary bases and encampments were one of the big places it spread. Mind you, there was a draft then (WWI), so the number of young men all in one place was much, much bigger. Still, the story sounds pretty scary...
