Patrick Logan ties a few threads on cloud computing together, and reaches the same conclusion that Nick Carr did in his latest book: utility computing is starting to appear, and it's going to be a large scale disruption - akin to the entry of PC's to the enterprise back in the 80's. IT departments everywhere are going to have a harder and harder time justifying their existence.
Like the Apple II and Viscalc just showing up in the office because they could get a job done. Like the Mosaic browser just showing up in the office because... oh, wait, that was for porn. But like the sales dept signing their own deal with Saleforce because someone's IT could not get a job done.
