I find it interesting that the Chevy Volt has some mundane issues to overcome - powering the wipers and stereo without draining the battery pack that drives the car:

GM says problems designing accessories like windshield wipers and an audio system that won't drain the Volt's batteries have forced its engineers to design expensive "redundant systems" that are driving up costs.

I also like the odd verbiage - "redundant systems"? It's probably just another battery pack, so why not say so? Speaking of which, it would be a hell of a thing to run out of power for the wipers in the middle of a rainstorm - so come to think of it, I'd really like a good explanation :)
