Jonathan Schwartz on the acquisition of MySQL by Sun:

Today, Sun announced we've closed the acquisition of MySQL - MySQL is now officially a part of Sun! From a dinner meeting back in late November, through some introspection from MySQL's CEO, to a closing today in late February - everyone involved showed a great sense of pace, urgency and excitement. And now, it's off to the races!

I can believe that the MySQL folks are excited - where else would they find anyone willing to pay $1B for an open source product with $60M in annual revenues? It would have been cheaper to offer the top ten developers $1M annually (heck, $10M, even) to hire on with Sun and keep pushing the product forward. But hey - I don't have a cool ponytail or a bunch of money to waste on cool toys, so what do I know?
