Newsweek has an article up that can only be described as wishful thinking applied to the business they are in:
The individual user has been king on the Internet, but the pendulum seems to be swinging back toward edited information vetted by professionals.
Yeah, I find myself moving away from blogs and back to "the pros" all the time... not. The funny thing is, there's no reason for this to be an either/or battle - and the fact that Newsweek seems to think it is shows how nervous they are. If you do solid reporting on topics of interest, you'll get readers. If you don't, you won't.
It's not complicated, and it really doesn't require a long article of bad examples to get to that point. If you want an explanation of just how bad the examples are, see Mathew Ingram, who takes Newsweek to task.
If Newsweek is having enough trouble that they feel a need to toss rocks at "amateurs", then things are probably worse for them than I thought they were.
