There are lots of people writing about the AP, and their misstep in tossing DMCA takedowns at Rogers Cadenhead. One of the more badly mistaken ones is Dave Winer, who can't help but see ths as some kind of political issue. Here's the thing: it's not. It's basically the RIAA story all over again. The AP has a business model that's in the process of being disintermediated, and they are too big, too slow, and too blinkered to figure that out. So like the RIAA, the only thing they've been able to figure out as a strategy is "sue, sue, sue" in order to maintain the model they understand.
As Mathew Ingram has been pointing out, that's not going to work out for them.
