Even as the things I want to save and backup have gotten bigger (especially video files), the storage space available has grown by leaps and bounds. This became clear to me when I bought two new drives last night - a 500 GB drive to use for Time Machine on my wife's MacBook, and a portable 250 GB drive to carry with me at the next show (I cam very close to running out of space with just an old 60 GB drive at StS).
Both were cheap - $99 each. Then I pondered the drives (both personal and work) that are piling up in my office, and I realized that there's over 6 terabytes of storage here - and getting more would be inexpensive. heck, finding open plugs and available USB ports is getting to be a bigger problem. No wonder my daughter thinks nothing of having 12,000 photos organized in iPhoto - when I was her age, that many photos would have meant real money (printing) and real space (lots and lots of shoe boxes).
The biggest problem over the next few years is simply going to be organizing all the stuff we can keep. It's been a long while since I had to clean out a drive in order to make room - but as time goes by, archiving and finding stuff is going to be a growing issue.
