Dare Obasanjo links to this story, where GM was forced to think up a new name for a car after realizing that the name they had chosen was a slang term for masturbation in French speaking Canada. My favorite instance of this was the poor sales of the Nova in the Spanish speaking world (literally "doesn't go"). I have a fair bit of sympathy for this problem; when you sell a global product, coming up with a widely neutral name has got to be extremely difficult.
