Dave Winer misses what Steve Jobs is getting at with his take on Netbook style computers: ""We don't know how to build a sub-$500 computer that is not a piece of junk."
Sure, it's a slam on the smaller computers that are selling well, but I doubt that Apple is really interested in that part of the market. They've never been interested in playing down at the low margin end of the space - their game is all about being "the luxury product you want at a not unreasonable markup". You could argue that Apple should try and get into the low end - but I don't think you can argue that Apple can't figure out how to do so. Unless they do a fairly large scale change to the way they do business, I doubt we'll see them playing at the $500 level. It's just not the way they've played the game.
