The Pharo project - a fork of Squeak with fairly ambitious goals - has just launched their new website. They sound like they are willing to take a "burn the diskpacks" approach - here are their goals, listed in bullet points:
- a clean and lean open-source Smalltalk platform, which arose from Squeak
- the obvious choice for professional Smalltalk development, for instance, for Seaside applications
- an emerging platform to help people invent the future
What they say they won't be:
- backwards compatible to certain Squeak applications (EToys, Nebraska, etc.)
- resistant to change
Should be interesting to watch.
