I read a history of Tamerlane's era awhile ago, so I was definitely interested when I saw the book "After Tamerlane" in the bookstore. It was an interesting read, and made some excellent points about the ways in which the modern era an aberration - the normal course of history has been one of empires. The imperial era of Europe was merely the most recent, and it's extensiveness had more to do with technology (communications and travel) than anything else.
It's a good book, but not a detailed one - if you're looking for an "imperial overview" of the era from 1300 to the present, this is a good choice. If you're looking for details, you want something else.
