PC World reports that Windows XP has been given more life, again:

Microsoft has once again put Windows XP on life support, extending the OS's death date to May 30, 2009. This reprieve comes two months after rumors swirled about another potential bail out.

Microsoft has just completely botched Vista from a PR standpoint. From the recent reviews I've seen (and input from people I trust who use it), it's an ok system now. The problem is, the meme that it sucks eggs stuck - Microsoft didn't do enough to counter the initial reviews, and Apple's brillinat Mac/PC ads were allowed to complete the job of defining the OS.

So what's MS left with? A need to keep propping up the "good" OS (XP) - probably right up until they launch Windows 7. Heck, they should just bow to reality now, and announce that XP support will expire when Windows 7 launches. They'll end up getting there by inches anyway.
