Sun is exploring more ways to lose money:
A Sun Microsystems executive has provided a glimpse into the company's future plans for open sourcing JavaFX, its recently released technology for building RIAs (rich Internet applications) for the desktop, mobile devices and other platforms.
Sun's business model for open source seems to be like the old cartoon of a complex series of equations, with a pile of cash (or energy, or whatever) at the end of it. The problem is the big balloon in the middle that reads: "And then a miracle occurs".
There are more Java consultants than you can possibly count, so I don't see a services based model here. Hardware? Why in the heck would I ever buy Sun hardware, when commodity boxes running Linux are so cheap, and so fast? Sun needs a CEO with a clue, stat.
