"Red Thunder" is a pretty good yarn, about a seat of the pants technology used to power a spaceship to Mars - in a few days. The story hearkens back to some of the early Heinlein in its "aw shucks" view of things - but it's hardly corny. It was a fast, enjoyable read - just the thing if you have a few hours to kill on a plane.
