I live and work in the ACT, so when I read that they want the ACT government to choose open source over Microsoft products, I begin to wonder what they really mean. Surely they mean "consider local products, then open source products, then foreign products", right?

There's no way I'm going to give away my IP to the local government just because I want to do business with them. And there's no way I'm giving them the right to resell my software either.

But, what this will hopefully mean is that they will stop blindly going for the big Microsoft and Sun and IBM deals and start looking at the local talent more. Not that I can complain, the company I work for, Wizard IS, has a really close relationship with the ACT government.,/p> Here's the article
