What's that phrase Twitter is looking for? Could it be... "Business Plan"? Get a load out of this NY Times piece today. Amongst all the anger about the Suggested User List, there's a simpler problem: a management team that has no clue where revenues might come from:
Twitter says the list was created in January to solve a vexing problem: people who first subscribe to the service often are overwhelmed by the experience. Suggested users become a welcome wagon. "People were signing up and then they weren't following anyone," said Biz Stone, one of Twitter's co-founders. Did he realize he was helping to create an arbiter of popularity? "We didn't think that far ahead," he said.
I think that last line could be a statement on their entire business. I still see no revenue model for these guys that begins to cover what their costs must be.
