Looks like IE is no longer the runaway default browser, and that's probably better for all of us - not because it's bad, but because having competition makes all the browsers better. From TechCrunch:
If you look at the chart above from Statcounter, it indicates that since March Internet Explorer has lost 11.4 percent market share to other browsers. That is the combined market share of IE8, IE7, and IE6. Certainly IE8 (the light blue line) has been growing strong since its release last March, capturing 16.7 percent of the market as of July 4.
I just ran a quick check of the traffic on our site over the last week or so. The percentages by major browser and bot:
| Browser/Bot | Percentage of Traffic |
| FireFox | 20.6% |
| Internet Explorer | 18.2% |
| Yahoo Bot | 14.2% |
| Safari | 10.3% |
| MSN Bot | 10% |
| Google Bot | 8.7% |
| Opera | 1.7% |
The IE breakdown is interesting too:
- Internet Explorer 6: 7.2%
- Internet Explorer 7: 6.3%
- Internet Explorer 8: 4.7%
Almost a third of the traffic to our sites comes via FireFox and Safari. I should try and dredge up some of the older logs and see how that all compares.
