That old "best tool for the job" thing is completely absent from the thinking (if you can call it that) amongst the technorati. Take this, for example:
Three months ago, Steve Gillmor wrote that "it's time to get completely off RSS and switch to Twitter." Sam Diaz piled on last week, calling RSS a Web 1.0 application whose time has passed. And things got even worse today, when news leaked that former Feedburner chief Dick Costello has agreed to join Twitter as chief operating officer.
Right, because Twitter is the optimal way to read all news. We're at the point where the closed circle of tech pundits only talk in circles to each other - people like Gillmor, Arrington, Scoble, and that whole crew. The latest thing that floats across their radar is the answer to everything, and last year's technology is the answer to nothing.
Out here in the real worlld, the rest of us are using Twitter, and RSS, and search, and basic web pages based on what we're looking for at the time. Inside the echo chamber? It changes all the time, and everything old is worthless...
