I've really been enjoying the tv show Tru Calling. It's a shame that season two only has six episodes. The show stands on its own two feet just fine - certainly a lot better than that crap show 4400. The 4400 wouldn't have been good as a series either, let alone a mini-series.
So Tru Calling is about a girl who is asked by dead people for help. The day rewinds and she gets to re-live the day with all the knowledge of the first instance. This allows her to help people and make sure some person or other doesn't get killed.
So what has this got to do with outsourcing? Well, last I remembered there were Angel's of Death who's job it was was to help people in dire situations. I'd call dieing fairly dire need. Since when have Angel's been human any way? - this appears to be a modern kink of story telling - "It was us all along" kind of mantra.
So lets say there's this big war going on between Heaven and Hell and they don't have the time to look after the little humans any more. Those pesky people keep needing help, but due to cut backs in both the Heaven and Hell departments, there aren't enough Angel's to go around. So! The simplest solution is to outsource the job.
In steps Tru Davies - she's an unwitting contractor of Heaven and/or Hell. The interesting thing here is that just like outsourcing - you pay for what you get. Tru sucks, she barely gets the job done and she's so busy with her own pointless angst that she is barely even functioning as a person.
If Tru's ability were discovered, a responsible human race would set up a 'team' to work with her. When the day rewinds, she fill si n the dteam - some swat, some police, some fire, some investigators, some home land security perhaps?. This wouldn't cut Tru out of the loop, but when things get out of sync with her previous experience, there are other people there to back her up that are professional do-gooders, not professional morgue people.
So then we have Jack. My take here is that Hell has also outsourced this part of it's work. Indubitably there was some sort of deal between heaven and Hell to share the work load of dealing with humans. So Jack is hell's representative. since the show won't go on for much longer, I'm going to take a punt and say that there are always two. A male and a female - and her mum was killed by the man of the pair. And she did it willingly, I bet he convinced her it was all pair-shaped.
So there you have it. Tru Calling is actually a show chronically Heaven's attempt at outsourcing the job of some Angel's and like most outsourcing stories, it's going horribly wrong, over budget, high risk with low returns.
