I am an avid fan of Baylor sports. I believe that we can actually have a winning football team. I believe that we have one of the best baseball programs in the country. I believe that Coach Scot Drew is one of the greatest men's basketball coaches in the nation. I believe that our track team cannot be beat.
And I also believe that the Baylor girls basketball team is the greatest in the Big 12, if not in the nation. Any team that can come within one point of beating LSU in their season opener deserves some respect. The AP poll has given us that respect. With the publication of the Week 7 AP poll, Baylor has moved up to be ranked #3 nationally. For the seven weeks that the AP poll has been published, our rankings have been: #8, #9, #9, #6, #6, #5, and now #3. The AP poll has been giving us the respect that we deserve.
On the other hand, we have been given the run around by the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll yet again. In the seven weeks that it has been published, Baylor has been ranked #8, #12, #11, #10, #9, #9 and with the latest poll: #9. Yes, the ESPN poll ranks us #9 out of the nation, a difference of six positions from the AP poll.
No other team is experiencing this kind of disparity. The below chart will hopefully put this into perspective:

The next highest disparity is a difference of 2! I have figured for some time that ESPN and its associated polls were biased toward old-school perinnial powers, but come on, this is getting ridiculous! When Baylor wins a game and records season highs for points (92), field goal percentage (.583), 3-point percentage (.667), assists (27), steals (21), victory margin (45 points), and season-tying low for opponents points scored (47), you'd think someone would notice. Unfortunately ESPN on ran the story on the side bar for about a day. Instead they put up stories about Tennesse and UConn losing (again), which will knock both of them even LOWER in the polls. Maybe NOW Baylor can move up a spot in the poll. Regardless, we at Baylor get NO respect!
